Why Belong?

About Us

Why Belong to the CIS eLearning Consortium?

1. It is Pedagogically Sound --

" Provides students with online skills to be successful in University, and for workplace training.
" Preparation occurs in a culture of care with a Site Administrator.
" Constant course review, student surveys, to maintain course quality.

You are investing in sound pedagogy for your students!

2. Marketing / Competition for students / Enrollment -

" Public Schools offer online courses. Commercial vendors offer online courses. Soon all schools will offer online courses. To be competitive independent schools need to offer online courses.
" A collaborative Consortium is less costly than providing this individually by school.
" Online courses support student retention and encourages registration of new students.

Your school offers the most current and effective curriculum for students!

3. Diversity of Courses and Learning Styles

" Provides courses you are not otherwise able to offer.
" Meets differentiated learning styles of your students.
" Supports elite athletes and performers, and special situations (travel).
" Students can pick up missed credits that the school requires.
" Schools can eliminate small size sections.
" Provides courses for class size overflow.
" Entire classes can be offered online.

Your school meets the differentiated needs of all your students!

4. School Professional Development

" Increases technology / online skills of online teachers.
" Provides PD and leadership opportunities for your teachers.
" Moves teachers towards more interactive, student based instructional practices. Online skills have been shown to transfer to the face to face classroom.
" Supports differentiated instruction.

You keep your teachers and staff up to date with the latest pedagogical use of technology!

5. Course and Instructional Quality

" A December 2010 Course Survey of over 140 students was highly positive.
" All instructors must take the UOIT 125 hour AQ: Teaching and Learning with eLearning. This is the first AQ in online learning offered in Ontario and your teachers began taking it first.
" The ELC Director, Teachers and Site Administrators meet regularly to modify and improve course and policy procedures.
" At the end of each curricular year there are Surveys to review course and policy, and improvement occur for the following year.

You support excellence in teaching and learning!

6. Fosters a Community of Collaboration

" ELC Committees (Academic Council, Teacher, Site Administrators, IT Support Staff, Marketing, Board) meet regularly to foster sharing among member schools.
" Schools learn about techniques and approaches that can be taken back to their own school.
" The selection of courses and teachers each year is a Consortium collaborative process.

You encourage a Community of Cooperation!

7. Cost: Membership fee and seat pricing (if extra seats are selected) and cost of PD for each teacher offering a course.

" Each teacher provided by the school generates 20 seats. Therefore the cost of the teacher section balances the seats you acquire for your students.
" Many schools run sections with less than 10 students.
" If you register 20 students it would be equivalent to 2 teachers teaching 10 students each…the savings of one teacher section for you!!

You provide financially effective online course delivery!
